Thank you HRI and Tim Gray for creating this blog. Yet another excellent communication tool for the citizens and other stakeholders along the Housatonic River to read and share current topics. As this Superfund site enters into the all-important Corrective Measures stage for Rest of River, this blog should prove invaluable for keeping everyone informed.

2008…still working towards a swimmable and fishable river!

Welcome to our blog. We are deep into the EPA/GE Corrective Measures Process for the contaminated section of the Housatonic River. We would like to achieve the best possible PCB clean up possible . In Pittsfield EPA is allowing GE to put their PCBs 50 feet from an elementary school playground. We don’t want this to happen again! We support the use of innovative technology to destroy or reduce PCBs as to minimize these landfills which we believe are all timebombs for future generations. Please help us to have a community discussion and give us your thoughts and ideas.

Housatonic River Initiative belongs to the Waterkeeper® Alliance

Waterkeeper Alliance is the international center of a network of Waterkeeper programs. The Alliance approves new Waterkeeper programs, licenses the use of the Waterkeeper names, represents the individual Waterkeepers on issues of national interest, and serves as a meeting place for all the Waterkeepers to exchange information, strategy and know-how. The Alliance and its member Waterkeeper groups meet at least once a year, rotating between regions, and communicates regularly in the interim.
